Professor José Iriarte has been awarded the 2023 Field Discovery Award by the prestigious Shanghai Archaeology Forum (SAF) from the Institute of Archaeology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, for his work on ‘The Colombian Amazon Rock Art’. This was an exceptionally competitive year, with over 130 nominations for the 2023 SAF Awards Program. Nominations were subject to two rounds of assessment and adjudication was adopted, anchored firmly in the principles of excellence and impartiality. The SAF said Professor Iriarte’s work was: “a true reflection of its scholarly significance and your exceptional contribution to the field of archaeology.
