My doctoral research explores the relationship between human groups and their environments during the Late Pleistocene and Middle Holocene in the Middle Cauca and Sabana de Bogotá regions. Primarily focused on phytolith analysis, the research takes a multiproxy approach to better understand how these populations adapted to environmental changes. The findings reveal that human groups employed a range of adaptive strategies over time, including the management of plant resources and the modification of ecosystems to support their subsistence needs. This research provides new insights into the dynamic interaction between humans and their surroundings, showing how early populations were not only shaped by their environments but also actively modified them. These results contribute to a broader understanding of early human adaptation in tropical environments.
